2010 | NIT Meghalaya started at Surat with SVNIT, Surat as the Mentor Institute. |
July 2010 | B. Tech Programme started in the 3 disciplines of CSE, ECE and EEE with intake of 30 each. 87 students took admission in the 1st batch. |
Nov. 2011 | Institute starts functioning in the home state from a temporary office in Laitumkhrah, Shillong. |
July 2012 | Institute starts academic activities in Shillong from its temporary campus in the Bijni Complex, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. |
Oct. 2012 | HRM lays the Foundation Stone of the Institute at the permanent campus site at Cherrapunjee. |
July 2013 | B. Tech programme started in 2 new disciplines of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering with intake of 30 each. Total intake increased to 150. Ph. D programme started; 1st batch of 10 scholars joined the programme. |
February, 2013 | First Sports and Cultural Festival Shisir Organized |
October, 2013 | First Technical Festival Cognitia Organized |
June 2014 | 1st Batch of 83 students completed B. Tech programme. |
July 2014 | M. Tech programme started in the 3 disciplines of CSE, ECE and EE (Power & Energy Systems) with intake capacity of 20 each. |
1st Nov. 2014 | 1st Convocation of NIT Meghalaya conducted. |
8-9 May, 2015 | External Academic Audit carried out by a 14 member Committee consisting of Prominent Academicians and Industry Representatives. |
July 2015 | M. Tech programme started in 2 more disciplines of CE and ME with intake capacity of 15 each. M. Sc programme started in the 3 disciplines of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with intake capacity of 16 each |
19th Oct. 2015 | 2nd Convocation of NIT Meghalaya conducted. |

Institute placed at 57 rank (among all Engineering Inst.) by NIRF, MHRD. 15th position among the 31 NITs and the top position among the 11 new NITs. |
2016 | The 3rd Convocation of NIT Meghalaya held on 21st June 2016. Degrees were conferred to 65 B.Tech students and 44 M.Tech students. |
2017 | The Institute was ranked 100th by NIRF in the Engineering Category. |
The 4th Convocation of NIT Meghalaya held on 28th Oct 2017. Degrees were conferred to 110 B.Tech students, 55 M.Tech students and 24 M.Sc students. | |
2018 | The Institute was ranked 98th by NIRF in the Engineering Category. |
Dr. Smrutirekha Sahoo, Asst. Prof., CE Dept. reeived the "Young Geotechnical Engineer” Award sponsored by Centre for Geomechanics and Railway Engineering, University of Wollongong, Australia and the Organizing Committee of ISGTI-2018 | |
Dr. Shaik Affijulla, Asst. Prof., from EE Dept was conferred POSOCO Power System Award 2018 under the doctoral category, securing 1st position in all over India for research work by POSOCO Limited in association with the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer at IIT Delhi. | |

The 5th Convocation of NIT Meghalaya held on 6th Oct 2018. Degrees were conferred to 129 B.Tech students, 57 M.Tech students, 30 M.Sc students and 5 Ph.D scholars at the convocation. | |

One day curriculum development workshop for M. Sc Programme was conducted on 29 th March 2019. The aim of the workshop was to design a state-of- the art curriculum for M. Sc Programme. The curriculum and syllabi were discussed with the experts and finalized. | |
With the help of TEQIP-III, the E-Library of the Institute and was inaugurated on the 14th August, 2019 by Prof. B.B Biswal, Director, NIT Meghalaya in the presence of all the Deans, HoDs and Library Committee members. The E-Library was set-up to enable students to browse various E-resources subscribed by the Library and other open access resources available in the Internet. | |
The 6th Convocation of NIT Meghalaya was held on 28th of Sep, 2019. Degrees were conferred to 107 B. Tech students, 45 M. Tech students, 35 M.Sc students and 10 Ph.D Scholars. | |
The Department of Mathematics conduceted “Indian Women and Mathematics (IWM) Regional Workshopon Research Opportunities” at NIT Meghalaya during 19th & 20th Oct, 2019. This workshop is a part of the series of mini workshops organised in different parts of the Country at the initiative of collective mathematicians called Indian Women and Mathematics (IWM). | |

The First Research Conclave 2020 of NIT Meghalaya was held on 28th Feb, 2020. During the conclave, 50 young research scholars showcased their work in the form of posterpresentations and 29 number of students presented oral presentations across 3 parallel tracks consisting of Track-1 (Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering) Track-2 (Computer science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering), Track-3(Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Humanitiesand Social Science) and 4 number of research demonstrations in various field of Science, Engineering, Humanities and Social Science. | |
Dr. Rakesh Roy, Assistant Professor, EE Dept. developed a special type, simple and low cost hand gloves by which the spreading of the corona virus can be minimized. | |
The 7th Convocation of NIT Meghalaya was held on 4th of Dec, 2020 via virtual mode. Degrees were conferred to 123 B. Tech students, 56 M. Tech students (including 3 M.Tech Part-Time), 38 M.Sc students and 9 Ph.D Scholars. | |
