Major General Rajesh Kumar Jha, AVSM** (Retd.) is the Director (Personnel) of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited and working closely with the Ministry of Power to harness the abundant power potential of the North East Region and the country. He is also heading the Task Force of NTPC Group of Companies constituted for implementation of Green Energy initiatives in collaboration with Indian Army.
Result- oriented with an eye for the big picture and a firm resolve to follow the righteous path under all circumstances, Major General Rajesh Kumar Jha has been committed to cement the company’s strategic significance and reach in the mainstream landscape of power generation. A proud Paratrooper and an expert in Strategy operations, Operational logistics, internal security and handling of strategic assets of the nation, Major General Jha's international assignments include operational stint in Maldives in 1989, with the United Nations Peace keeping Mission in 2000 in Sierra Leone (West Africa) and serving as the Defence and Military Adviser at the High Commission of India in London from 2014 to 2017.
An alumni from the country's one of the prestigious schools Sherwood College, Nainital, Major General Jha honed his leadership qualities and skills in his formative years in National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy. As part of his professional journey, he has completed all the mandatory professional courses and appointments with great distinction. Chief among them being the prestigious Staff Course from DSSC Wellington, Higher Command Course from Army War College, Mhow, and course in cyber terrorism at NATO Institute in Ankara, Turkey.
A highly decorated Officer of the Indian Army, Major General Jha has been conferred with various honours and awards during his career for distinguished and selfless service to the Nation ranging from eight commendation cards by the Chief of Army Staff/Army Commanders and a Citation from the Honourable Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. He has been awarded with 'Ati Vishisht Seva Medal' (AVSM) for immense contribution towards maintenance and operationalization of India's Strategic Forces Command on 26th January, 2021.
Most recently on 19th July, 2024,Major General Jha, received the prestigious Bar to the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) from the President of India at the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Durbar Hall, Rashtrapati Bhawan. This honor, acknowledging his service of a very exceptional order, follows his previous AVSM awarded on January 26, 2021, by then President Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
Beyond his professional commitments, Major General Rajesh Kumar Jha and Mrs Anupama Jha are deeply passionate about the well-being of girl child and socio- humanitarian- economic development activities especially in the North-eastern region. During his command of a Mountain Division in West Kameng in 2018, they adopted two five-year old girls, Rinchin and Tenzin, from Manjushree Vidyapith, Tawang. This personal commitment to social causes underscores the couple's dedication to making a difference beyond their professional lives.
