   Games-

Housie, Jenga game, Mawkynting_Mawpeh

Housie

    Housie is a game of probability in which players mark off numbers on cards as the numbers are drawn randomly by a caller, the winner being the first person to mark off all their numbers.

Rules and guidlines

1. Every participant should buy a housie card available at the place where housie is organised.
2. Everyone should bring their own pen/pencil.
3. One number is randomly select, or cause to be randomly selected by means of a random selection device, and announce to the participants.
4. Every participants need to put a tick mark or cross mark if that number that is randomly selected is present in their housie card.
5. In case of dispute, the organizers have rights to bend rules provided it does minimum conflict to both parties.
6. Under no circumstance shall any participant make attempts to manipulate/influence decisions of judges. Their decision shall be final and abiding.

Procedure for determining winners

1. The winner of a game of housie must be determined in accordance with the following procedure:
   • As soon as any participant announces openly to the other participants and to the coordinator that he or she has completed a part series or series in a game, the coordinator or caller, or some other person appointed by the coordinator, must:-

     (i) Verify that the participant’s card belongs to the card series that is being played in that game.

     (ii) Verify that each of the numbers on that participant's card relating to the part series or series, as the case may be, corresponds to numbers already selected in that game and announced by the caller.

     (iii) Verify that the part series or series was won on the number last announced.

     (iv) Ensure that the numbers on the winner's card relating to the part series or series, as the case may be, are announced openly to all participants.

   • When a participant announces openly to the other participants and to the coordinator that he or she has completed a part series or series in a game and it is discovered that that participant has not completed the part series or series, the game must continue and that card must no longer be played in that game.
2. When 2 or more participants announce openly to the other participants and to the coordinator, after the same announcement of a number, that they have completed a part series or series, the prize must be shared equally between them.
3. When an incorrect number is announced, that incorrect announcement, for the purpose of determining the winner, is taken not to have been made.

Jenga Game

    Jenga is a game of physical skill created by Leslie Scott, and currently marketed by Hasbro. Players take turns removing one block at a time from a tower constructed of 54 blocks. Each block removed is then placed on top of the tower, creating a progressively taller and more unstable structure.

Rules and guidlines

1. To set up the game, the included loading tray is used to stack the initial tower which has eighteen levels of three blocks placed adjacent to one another along their long side and at right angles to the previous level (so, for example, if the blocks in the first level lie lengthwise north-south, the second-level blocks will lie east-west).
2. Once the tower is built, the person who built the tower gets the first move.
3. Moving in Jenga consists of taking one and only one block from any level (except the one below the incomplete top level) of the tower, and placing it on the topmost level to complete it.
4. Only one hand should be used at a time when taking blocks from the tower. Blocks may be bumped to find a loose block that will not disturb the rest of the tower.
5. Any block that is moved out of place must be returned to its original location before removing another block. The turn ends when the next person to move touches the tower or after ten seconds, whichever occurs first.
6. The game ends when the tower falls, or if any piece falls from the tower other than the piece being knocked out to move to the top. The winner is the last person to successfully remove and place a block.

Mawkynting_Mawpeh

    It is one of the oldest and most played traditional Game in Meghalaya especially in khasi community.To play five stones game minimum two players are required. Maximum number of players can be of any number, but generally played in a small group. This game is more popular among the girls rather than the boys. Children in the age group of 6 to 8 years (and also above) mostly play this game.

Rules and guidlines

    In this game, the players need to complete a set of nine steps and these steps are as given below:

1. The player has to closely scatter all five stones on the ground and has to pick up one of those and again has to throw up in the air. The player should not allow the pebble to fall on the ground and before catching the pebble in the air she needs to pick up one of the stones from the ground and then catch the first one in air. This has to be done very swiftly. In this way, one by one the other three pebbles are also required to pick up.
2. The player has to scatter all the five the stones on the ground and from there has to pick one of the pebbles like first step and needs to throw in the air. Like the previous step, this time also the player should not allow the first pebble to fall on the ground and before catching that pebble in the 17 air the player needs to pick up two stones at a time from the ground. In this way the other two stones also need to be picked up.
3. Game rules remain same as in previous step, but this time the player needs to pick up three stones at a time from the ground. The last one has to be picked up like step one.
4. Game rules remain same as in previous step, but this time the player needs to pick up all the four stones from the ground at a time.
5. Player has to hold all the five stones in one hand and then needs to throw one stone among them up in the air and before catching that stone, the other four stones need to be kept on the ground quickly. Then again has to throw that stone up in the air and needs to pick up all four stones at a time from the ground and then needs to catch the stone in the air.
6. The player has to make an arc with the middle finger and thumb, where the index finger has to be twisted over the middle finger. That finger arc is horizontally placed on the ground. The other two fingers have to be just lifted. After that, the player needs to scatter the pebbles on the ground in front of the finger arc. Any of the opponent players has to point to a particular pebble out of the five, which is not to be touched till the end of this step. Generally, the opponent player points to such a stone that causes difficulty to the player while playing this step. The player has to pick another pebble and needs to throw it up in the air and before catching the stone the player has to swipe one of the stones through the arc. Like this three chances are given to the player for every stone to pass through the arc. While swiping, the player must be cautious enough for not touching the other stones. In this way the player has to swipe all the three stones leaving the one that is selected by the opponent. At the end, after swiping all the three stones, the player has to swipe the last one, which was selected by the opponent.
7. The player has to hold all the five stones in her hand and need to throw any of the stones up in the air and has to keep the other four stones on the ground before catching the stone thrown in the air. After that, one of the opponent players has to select one stone from the four stones placed on the ground. Then the player again has to throw the stone in hand to the air and before catching it quickly needs to pick up three stones at a time, but without touching the selected one.
8. The player has to throw all the five stones up in the air and then needs to catch them by flipping the hand and holding them with the dorsal of the hands. Out of those stones the player needs to hold one stone in between two fingers and letting the rest to fall on the ground. After that, the stone in between the fingers needs to throw up in the air and then the player has to pick up the stones on the ground swiftly at a time before catching the stone in the air.
9. In the last step of this game, the player has to throw up the five stones in the air and needs to catch all the stones with the dorsal side of the hand. Again, in this holding position the stones are to be thrown in the air and have to catch them with front side of the hands. If any player misses any of the steps then the second player takes the turn. The second player plays the game until she misses any step. Like this the game continues. The player in their second round can play the step she missed in the previous round. The player who completed all the steps in minimum trials is the winner.

Objectives of EBSB

1. To CELEBRATE the Unity in Diversity of our Nation and to maintain and strengthen the fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds between the people of our Country.
2. To PROMOTE the spirit of national integration through a deep and structured engagement between all Indian States .

    To celebrate the idea of India as a nation wherein different cultural units across varied geographies coalesce and interact with each other, this glorious manifestation of diverse cuisine, music, dance, theatre, movies & films, handicrafts, sports, literature, festivals, painting, sculpture etc..

    Participants will be singing the songs of various languages spoken in Meghalaya,Uttar Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh which shows us their culture and tradition.

    Participants will be performing the dances of Meghalaya,Uttar Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh which shows us their culture and tradition.

Photo Exhibition

    This allows us to gain knowledge about the culture,tradition,attires,cuisines,habitat, vegetation of Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh

Food Festival

    The Food Festival is an EBSB(Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat) event which takes place in SHISHIR(The Annual Cultural Fest of NIT MEGHALAYA). This event showcases “Food and Cuisine” of Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Meghalaya. The primary purpose of the festival is to communicate inspiration and knowledge about the food culture in India to all of its visitors.The Food Festival offers a diversity of opportunities and great experiences to a broad group of people in one weekend.

Rules and guidlines

1. Group is maximum of 3 members.
2. A group can prepare different dishes belonging to any state,region etc.
3. It will be rated by the customers on the basis of their rating.
4. Group will be awarded with prize reward.
5. Participants have to bring their induction if they are using induction. Power supply will be provided by the college.
6. All the Cooking Utensils,gas, power supply etc will be provided by the college but the group needs to inform to organizers before hand(1 Week preferably).
7. All the Cooking Items(Vegetables, Rice etc) should be born by the group itself.
8. No registration fees for the participants but visitors need to pay 100 Rupees for entry.
9. Issues like crossing time limits, usage of abusive language will lead to disqualification.
10. The organizers have right to disqualify a team incase of any misbehaviour or failed to follow the instructions.

Judging criteria

1. Ratings by judges - 75%.
2. Ratings by visitors - 25%.

    Panache, the fashion night of Shishir, cultural fest of NIT Meghalaya is the event that portrays the diversity of India as students of our institute will be showcasing attires of different states of India. Also, in this event we will have different rounds in which different seasonal clothes will be showcased. This event gives students the exposure and confidence to walk on the ramp with outfits that belong to their and others culture.
