How to reach Shillong

• By Air:
  1. Shillong Airport: The nearest airport to the hill station is the Shillong airport or Umroi Airport near Barapani, which is about 30 kilometers away from the Shillong city. But this airport has limited connectivity with other cities in India. Air India provides service from Kolkata to Shillong only once in a day. From the airport you may hire a local taxi or on sharing basis to Shillong.
  2. Guwahati Airport: The nearest major airport that is well-connected with multiple cities across India is in Guwahati (Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport), which is about 125 kilometers away. One can book cab/taxi from the Guwahati airport to Shillong directly @Rs. 1800/2000. On sharing basis to Shillong (police bazar), cab/taxi would charge Rs. 500 per person (economical way). The drive is extremely beautiful surrounded by serene hills and a view of the majestic Umiam Lake.

• By Railways: Shillong doesn’t have a railway station within the city. The nearest railway station is in Guwahati.
  1. Guwahati Railway Station: There are two entrances/exits to the station, one towards the Pan Bazaar side, Guwahati (main entrance) and the other towards the Paltan Bazaar side, Guwahati. Taxi/Cab or Sumo is easily accessible to Shillong from Paltan Bazaar stand. Cab/Taxi (Swift Dzire, Etios/ Innova/ WagonR etc.) on sharing basis may charge Rs. 300 – 400 per person. However, one can book cab entirely @Rs. 1500-1600. Sumo service is also available to Shillong (Police bazaar / Civil) @Rs. 200 per person.

How to reach the Conference Venue (Hotel Pinewood)

The central hub of Shillong city is Police Bazaar. The Conference venue (Hotel Pinewood) is around 1.6 km from Police Bazaar. One can either hire a local taxi (@Rs. 50-100) or walk which will take about only 15 minutes.
