Conference Theme

ICEPE 2020 is the 3rd International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment, which is being organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering, NIT Meghalaya, Shillong, India during 5th-7th March 2021.ICEPE 2020 is technically co-sponsored by IEEE Industry Applications Society and IEEE Kolkata Section

The conference is proposed with a basic theme “Towards Clean Energy Technologies”. ICEPE 2020 will provide an opportunity to the practicing engineers, academicians and researchers to meet in a common forum to discuss various issues and its future direction in the field of clean energy technologies.

There are various tracks in the conference, which mainly focuses on the Energy, Power and Environment. The conference aims to put together the experts from the relevant research domains to share their knowledge and ideas with a direction towards future research scope.

About NIT Meghalaya

National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (established in 2010 under the NIT Act 2007 as an Institute of National Importance) is one among the 31 NITs in India. NIT Meghalaya is ranked 67th position by NIRF, 56th position by Business World and 28th position under Top 35 Government Engineering Colleges by India Today in 2019. The Institute has five Engineering Departments: Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Communication and Computer Science & Engineering; three Basic Science Departments and Humanities & Social Sciences. Its permanent campus is being set-up at Sohra (Cherrapunjee), Meghalaya which is endowed with pristine beauty and greenery.

Currently, the institute is functioning in its temporary campus at Shillong in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya and is about 2 kms from the main bus stand of Shillong on Police bazaar – Laitumkhrah roadway. The city of Shillong is well connected with rest of country by road. The nearest railway station is at Guwahati (Assam), at a distance of 100 kms from Shillong. The nearest airport is within city (25 kms). The place has healthy climate with temperature ranging from 17.5°C to 23.7°C during Sep and is at an average altitude of 1496 m above sea level.

About Department

The Department of Electrical Engineering started since the inception of NIT Meghalaya. Presently the department offers B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD program. The B. Tech program started in 2010 with an intake of 30 students and since 2014 onward M.Tech program has been started with an intake of 20 students offering specialization in Power & Energy Systems. Presently there are full time and part time research scholars, registered for PhD program.

The Department aims to impart high quality education to the students and carry out fundamental and industry oriented research work. The research interest of faculties encompass various areas of electrical engineering such as Deregulated power system, Soft computing application in power system control, Voltage stability alleviation under Deregulated Environment, Power Electronics & Drives, Control System and Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Embedded System, Non-conventional Energy system, High Voltage Engineering etc.

The department have well-equipped laboratory facilities to the students such as Electro-Technique Lab, Electrical Machine Lab, Network and Systems lab, Digital Electronics Lab, Power System Simulation Lab, Control & Instrumentation Lab, Power Electronics & Drives Lab, Microprocessor Lab, Microcontroller & Embedded Systems Lab. Specialised simulation softwares like Power Factory 14.1 (DIgSILENT), PSIM (Power Simulator), PSS@E (Power System Simulator for Engineers) are available with the department to develop the computing efficiency of the students and also to carry out research activities.
