Humanities & Social Sciences

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences has been an integral part of the Institute since its inception in the year 2010. The main objective of the department is the holistic and all round development of the technical graduates into socially responsible individuals. There has been strong exhortation and sensible view among the technical institutes that technical education needs to be complemented by a vital knowledge of the socio-political context and an appreciation of the social values and interpersonal context of all learning. In line with such a  viewpoint, the department is infusing the concept of "Technology for the greater good of mankind and society as a whole" so that the students may not only excel in technical expertise but also inculcate among themselves the qualities of excellent communication, refinement of reasoning, openness to new ideas, critical outlook, and a commitment to social values and ethical behaviour.

The department strives to provide the students allied knowledge essential to engineering students and has expertise in various disciplines like English Language and Literature, Psychology, Sociology, and Management. Some of the specific areas of specialization include European Literature in Translation; Comparative Literature; Social Psychology; Community Psychology, Human Sexuality; Structural Inequalities of Class, Caste, Gender; Marginalization and Intersectionalities; Cultural Studies; Sociology of Consumption; General Management, Marketing Management, Financial Management, Human Resource Management and Operations Management.

As a post-graduate department, it also offers a PhD programme across all the above disciplines under which research scholars are admitted twice a year. The prospective candidates may choose from the diverse areas of specializations from each discipline offered by the department, including interdisciplinary areas of research.

The department has excellent infrastructure to support teaching and research. Along with state of the art classrooms, the department is equipped with a modern Computer Assisted Language Learning Laboratory and Laboratory for the Research Scholars.
