The following Departments are inviting applications for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme starting in January 2019 under sponsored category (part-time).



Civil Engineering (CE)


Computer Science & Engineering (CS)


Electronics & Communication Engineering (EC)

a) Eligibility :

Employees from Industries, Corporate Houses, Research and Development (R&D) Organizations and Faculties of Senior Colleges with minimum working experience of 5 years are eligible for applying to this Ph.D. Programme.

b) Qualification:

Master’s degree in appropriate branch of Engineering/ Science/ Technology or Master’s degree in the allied subjects with consistently good academic record and a minimum 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA in the Master’s degree. Candidates with B.E./ B. Tech. with an aggregate of 75% marks or equivalent CGPA.

c) Relaxation for SC/ST/PH Candidates:

Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CGPA for SC/ST/PH category applicants.

d) Application Fees:

Application fees of Rs. 500/- for General/OBC and  Rs. 250 for SC/ST candidates  to be paid via one line. No application fee to be paid by PH candidates.

e) Selection Procedure:

Eligible candidates will be required to appear an oral interview based on application submitted. Final selection of candidates will be based on performance in the interview.

g) Fellowship : Sponsored candidates  are not entitled to receive fellowship/assistantship from the Institute.

h) Period of candidature:

The maximum period of candidature under sponsored category shall be 8 years from the date of admission /enrolment. Minimum time for thesis submission for sponsored category (part-time) candidate is 3 years and maximum 8 years from the date of registration.  Candidates under this category shall be exempted from classes of course work. They shall complete course work through self study or guided study mode. However they need to earn minimum number of credits through course work before registration of Ph.D Program. Candidates shall be governed as per PhD Regulations of NIT Meghalaya (refer below link).

i) How to Apply:

STEP-I: candidates are advised to make the payment first as per category (PH candidates may skip this step).

STEP-II : fill the online application form.

STEP-IIIA recent photograph of the candidate is to be fixed on space provided in the application

STEP:-1 : Instructions for Payment Process using State Bank Collect (SB Collect):

  1. Click on “Make Payment using SB Collect” below.


Online SBI Collect

  1. A DISCLAIMER CLAUSE page will open. Check the box for I have read and accepted the terms and conditions stated above and click on the PROCEED button.
  2. From the drop down menu, State of Corporate/Institution, select Meghalaya.
  3. From the drop down menu, Type of Corporate/Institution, select Educational Institutions. Click on the GO button.
  4. From the drop down menu, Educational Institutions Name, select NIT MEGHALAYA FEE COLLECTION. Click on the SUBMIT button.
  5. A page for details of payment will open. Under Select Payment Category, select APPLICATION FEES.
  6. Please read the complete page carefully.
  7. A page to verify details and confirm this transaction will appear. Click on the CONFIRM button if your details are correct.
  8. You will be directed to payment page
  9. Complete the payment process by selecting the mode of payment that you wish
  10. Save Reference number and date of payment  for filling the online Application

STEP II: Submission online Application form :

  1. Go to  online application form link,( [Date is over]
  2. Login the application and fill reference no assigned during the payment (example: BKIDN17007356407),  payment date(example:ddmmyyyy) and other important application details.
  3. If a candidate is applying for more than one department, the candidate must pay application fee separately to both applications and submit separate application to each departments.
  4. Candidates are advised to check the application in all aspects before pressing the submit button. Once the application is submitted and it cannot be modified.
  5. Finally, a printout of the application is to be taken. To view ‘the application to be printed’, you require an Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 or higher.

Step:III:  Hard copy of submission of Application:  

The following documents (whichever is applicable)  should be enclosed along with the printout of online application:

  1. A recent photograph of the candidate is to fixed on space provided in  application.
  2. Self attested copy of Payment proof.
  3. Statement of Purpose (SoP) indicating the area and type of research work he/ she proposes to carry out.
  4. Self attested copy of Educational qualifications Mark sheets and certificates as per filled online application form.
  5. Self attested copy of community certificate in the case of SC/ST candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar).
  6. Self attested copy of latest community certificate in case of OBC candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar) indicating that the candidate does not belong to the Creamy Layer for the financial year ending 31st March 2018.
  7. Sponsorship certificate from their employers in the prescribed format  (Sponsorship Form)
  8. Self attested copy of all research publications in Journals and Conferences.

Note: If any of the above  specified dates are declared as holidays, consequently the next working day is  considered as last date .
