Digital India Corporation, MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology), Govt. of India has granted scholarships under the scheme titled “Visvesvaraya PhD scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase-II”. Under this scheme presently admissions are open to Full Time and Part Time PhD program in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). This is a special scheme of Govt. of India with following features.

 

Salient features for Full Time Scholars:

  1. Monthly scholarship of Rs. 38,750/- for first two years and Rs. 43,750/- for rest 3 years (support up to 5 years).
  2. Rent reimbursement up to 8% of scholarship amount paid.
  3. Research Contingency Grant 1,20,000/- per year. 

 

Salient features Sponsored (Part Time) Scholars:

  1. Candidate is eligible to receive a One-time incentive of Rs. 3.00 Lakhs on successful completion of PhD.

 

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for admission into the PhD Program for the odd semester 2025-26, under the above scheme at NIT Meghalaya.

ii)                Candidates with B.E. / B. Tech. with an aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA and First Class are eligible.

iii)               Employees from Industries and Research & Development (R&D) Organizations, Employees from Academic Institutes and Faculties of Senior Colleges (Junior college are not to be included) with academic degrees as mentioned in point no. (i) and (ii).

AND

iv)               Minimum working experience of 5 years, after completion of UG (B.E/B.Tech), out of which 2 years should be from the current organization or Candidates with M.E/M.Tech/Master’s degree in the relevant field must have minimum of 3 years working experience, out of which 2 years should be from the current organization, to apply for the Sponsored Ph.D. Programme. Candidates from Polytechnic Institutes or those with AMIE (or equivalent) must be an M. Tech graduate to apply for the said Programme.

Above eligibility is minimum requirement only. A good academic career and higher qualifications will be preferred, and mere eligibility shall not ensure a call for admission test and/or viva voce.  

Total numbers of seats in this scheme are 03 (Three) under Full Time Category and 01 (One) Under Part Time Category, the distribution of seats will be based on qualification, expertise, performance in admission test/viva and suitability of the applicants.

Under the “Visvesvaraya PhD scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase-II” it is essential to work on research problems having relevance to Industry. General Instructions and Information

  • Relaxation for SC/ST/PWD Candidates for both Full Time and Sponsored (Part Time) as per applicable norms. 
  • The date for determining the eligibility of candidates in every respect shall be considered as on the closing date, i.e., the last date of the submission of the online application form.
  • Depending upon the number of applications received, the Institute reserves the right to fix higher eligibility criteria for shortlisting of the candidates for the selection process.
  • Eligible candidates are required to appear for a written test and interview in respect of his/ her discipline to be conducted by the Department concerned. No TA/DA will be paid for attending test / interview.
  • General/OBC candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only) and for SC/ST candidates, a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500/- (Rupees five hundred only). Women and PwD candidates are exempted from paying the application fee. The application fee is not refundable under any circumstances. Check step I for payment process.

  • The status regarding the selection of candidates for the admission to the Ph.D. Programme will be available on the Institute’s website (http://www.nitm.ac.in/). Selected candidates will be informed through email in respect of admission guidelines.
  • Hostel facilities for selected candidates will be allocated based on availability.
  • Separate fee to be paid for separate applications.

How to Apply:

STEP-I: Candidates are advised to make the application fee payment as per category (Rs. 1000/ for Gen/OBC, Rs. 500/- for SC/ST). Women and PWD candidates are exempted from paying the application fee).

STEP-II: Fill the online application form. After submission, print out of the online application form has to be sent by email along with all supporting documents.

STEP:-1: Instructions for Payment Process using State Bank Collect (SBI Collect):

  1. Click on “Make Payment using SBI Collect” Online SBI Collect .
  2. In the search bar, type “NIT MEGHALAYA FEE COLLECTION” and click on it.
  3. Under Select Payment Category, select APPLICATION FEES.
  4. Fill out the required details including the application fee amount and proceed to the next step. In remarks, write ‘Visvesvaraya PhD scheme’.
  5. A page to verify details and confirm this transaction will appear. Click on the NEXT button if your details are correct.
  6. Complete the payment process by selecting the mode of payment that you wish.
  7. Save the generated pdf payment receipt, it will be required for submitting along with your application form. The reference number and date of payment will also be required to enter the form.

STEP II: Submission online application form:

  2. If a candidate is applying for more than one department or more than one category (full time or part time), the candidate must pay application fees separately and choose the desired departments/category in the online application form.
  3. Candidates are advised to check the application in all aspects before pressing the submit button. Once the application is submitted, it cannot be modified. Regarding any issue on filling up online form, please email : computercenter@nitm.ac.in
  4. Finally, save a copy of the generated online form for submitting as mentioned below.
  5. Incomplete application, application received without Payment Receipt or without the academic documents as stated below shall be summarily rejected without any explanation.
  6. The generated online form along with soft copy of the documents mentioned at pt 7 should be emailed to phdadmission@nitm.ac.in, CC to: visvesvaraya.phd@nitm.ac.in  subject of the mail should be “PhD application form of (Your Name), (Visvesvaraya PhD scheme for Electronics and IT) for (Full Time/Part Time )”.
  7. Please email your documents only from the email entered in the form. The document should be scanned (not a photo), properly oriented and arranged in the order given below:

a.      Application fee receipt

b.      Proof of date of birth

c.      Educational qualifications, mark sheets and certificates in line with the filled online application form.

d.      Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC) in standard format issued by the Competent Authority.  OBC certificate should be latest.

e.      Sponsorship Certificate/No Objection Certificate from the employers (if employed) in the prescribed format;

                                           i.           Form - III A - Format for Sponsorship Certificate (if organization is sponsoring for carrying out the candidate’s financial aspect of the Ph.D Programme )

                                         ii.           Form - III B - Format for No-Objection Certificate from Employer (mandatory for Sponsored Part Time Ph.D candidates)

f.       Self attested copy (1st page) of all research publications in Journals and Conferences (if any).

g.      Disability certificate in standard format (in case of PWD candidates) issued by the Competent Authority.

h.      One government issued ID proof (EPIC, PAN, AADHAR etc).
