Industrial Visit carried out for the 3rd year B.Tech. Mechanical engineering students (6th semester) on 25th April 2025 at IOCL Guwahati refinery, Noonmati
An education tour cum industrial visit was organized for the students of B.Tech. 3rd year (6th semester) Mechanical Engineering to Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Guwahati refinery on 25th April 2025. They were assisted by one staff member, one research scholar and two faculty. The students were first directed to visit the Workshop where various working aspects of a compressor were discussed and demonstrated by the workshop personnel. The working principle of valves were also demonstrated. Different sections of the workshop along with their functionaries were shown to the students. A tour of the entire refinery was carried out. A brief presentation on the inception of IOCL and how it functions, what the products and byproducts of crude oil are, how they are processed, how they are distributed, etc. were presented and discussed by the Officer (Learning & Development, L & D), Guwahati refinery. This followed a question-answer session where queries from the attending students were satisfactorily answered by the Officer. Fire safety hazards were also demonstrated by the fire safety personnel. Instructors also mentioned the internship opportunities to the students to get a better understanding of the functioning of the entire unit. The visit concluded with the handing over of a token of appreciation, a memento to the Officer (L&D). Demonstration as well as presentation of the functions of the different components involved in the refinery made the visit a fruitful one. This was the first industrial visit that was carried out by NIT Meghalaya from its permanent campus at Sohra and there were quite some good experiences to take away from this visit.
