Computer Center is an important part of NIT Meghalaya. It caters to all the departments, centers and sections from internet to computing resources for research activities, training, workshops and daily activities.
Various facilities provided by the center:
The institute features a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure built on a high-bandwidth fiber optic backbone, providing redundant, high-speed connectivity to every building on campus. This robust network enables students and faculty to engage seamlessly with global academic communities.
The campus leverages a multi-gigabit environment with two primary high-speed lines:
Primary Link: A 1Gbps connection from the National Knowledge Network (NKN), a pan-India backbone commissioned by the MHRD.
Backup Link: A secondary 1Gbps line provided by JIO to ensure 24/7 uptime.
The network architecture integrates both wired and wireless solutions to ensure reliable communication from any location:
Wired Network: Utilizes CAT6A UTP cabling across all buildings, supported by high-security networking equipment and a comprehensive Data Centre Infrastructure System.
Wireless Network: Provides campus-wide Wi-Fi coverage, extending high-speed internet access to all hostel rooms.
User Management: To maintain network integrity, a captive portal manages user authentication and restricts unauthorized guest access.
In addition to digital security features, the entire campus and its facilities are monitored by an integrated IP-Surveillance System, ensuring a secure physical and technical environment for all stakeholders.
